SIMA Staff

The day-to-day operations of SIMA are run by a full-time staff consisting of an executive director, associate director, event manager, communications manager, and an events & communications coordinator. SIMA staff can be reached at 949.366.1164 or via email at info1@sima.com.

Sean Smith
Executive Director

Sean Smith oversees operational duties for the association and manages the daily activities and initiatives to help strengthen SIMA’s role in the industry. Prior to joining SIMA staff in 2001, he was the former director of marketing for the Action Sports Group of magazines, now owned by Source Interlink, where he oversaw the marketing and public relations efforts for magazines such as Surfer, Snowboarder and Skateboarder. His prior experience also includes serving as a public relations specialist for the tourism board in central Florida and marketing manager for Golfweek, a national weekly golf publication. Sean obtained a B.A. in Journalism from University Central Florida.


Jennifer Kelly
Associate Director

Jennifer Kelly is responsible for working with the executive director on operational duties and helping manage the association’s daily activities and initiatives. She brings a strong public relations background and knowledge of trade association business to SIMA. Jennifer joined SIMA in 2004 in a marketing and communications capacity after working at two of the top-ranked public relations agencies in Orange County, and as the marketing manager for the House of Blues Anaheim. In her role, Jennifer also oversees and continues to be involved in SIMA’s marketing and communications efforts and manages SIMA’s research initiatives. Jennifer graduated from Pepperdine University with a B.A. in Public Relations.


Shannon Park
Event Manager

Shannon Park manages all aspects of SIMA’s annual events, including Surf Summit, Waterman’s Weekend and Liquid Nation Ball. She also manages logistics and production of the SIMA Image Awards. A graduate of the University of California, Irvine, Shannon has her B.A. in Art History. Her prior experience managing finances, planning events and excellent attention to detail are assets to SIMA and the success of the association’s events. Shannon joined SIMA in 2006 after working in business operations and events for an investment firm.


Mandy Lausché
Communications Manager

Mandy Lausché handles a variety of communications activities for SIMA, including managing SIMA’s public relations and media initiatives, marketing materials and member communication efforts. She is also responsible for creating the SIMA Sessions newsletter and managing SIMA’s website, as well as managing the grant processes for SIMA’s Environmental and Humanitarian Funds. A graduate of Indiana University’s School of Journalism, Mandy brings excellent writing and media relations skills to SIMA. Mandy joined the SIMA team in 2008 after getting her start at one of Chicago’s top PR agencies and completing a variety of PR internships, including one for London-based Magellan Public Relations.


Kelly Keenan
Events & Communications Coordinator

Kelly Keenan coordinates a variety of both SIMA event and communication efforts. Kelly is responsible for aspects of SIMA event planning including logistical preparation, ticket sales processing, and on-site execution. Kelly is also responsible for coordinating SIMA membership communications, PR efforts, and maintaining SIMA’s social media networks. Kelly is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton, where she received her B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. Starting as an Events and PR Intern for SIMA, Kelly quickly became actively involved with the organization. After a few short months, she permanently joined the SIMA team in 2010.
