Members of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) are entitled to many different benefits and services. These programs are designed to help member companies’ businesses save money while enhancing business operations.

SIMA strives to keep members informed, trained and educated in business practices and the ever-changing surf industry to help them grow their business.

Surf Summit

Each year, questions and other important issues facing the surf industry are addressed at the surf industry’s annual conference: SIMA Surf Summit in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The goal of the four-day, three-night Surf Summit is to learn, share ideas, network and help shape the future of the surf industry. Surf Summit is a member and invitation only event. SIMA members receive first priority and membership discounts to SIMA Surf Summit.

What Surf Summit is to Cabo, SIMA Boot Camp is to Orange County. Thegoal of the SIMA Boot Camps is to allow SIMA members to benefit from intimate seminars on an ongoing basis that aim to provide valuable tips and tools to help their companies improve a variety of daily business operations. SIMA members receive first priority and membership discounts on all SIMA Boot Camps.

Industry Research

As part of its commitment to the surf industry, SIMA commissioned the industry’s first comprehensive retail distribution study that provides the most detailed overview of the U.S. surf retail market to date. SIMA members receive these reports free of charge.

Environmental Activism & Support 

SIMA actively supports oceanic environmental efforts through its 501 (c)(3) charitable environmental foundation, the SIMA Environmental Fund. The Environmental Fund’s largest fundraiser is SIMA’s annual Waterman’s Weekend, which has raised more than $4 million for the environment over the past 18 years. SIMA members receive invitations and special pricing for the always sold-out Waterman’s Weekend.

Humanitarian Activism & Support

Established in 2006, the SIMA Humanitarian Fund awards grants to various surf or boardsport related social and humanitarian non-profit organizations. The annual Liquid Nation Ball serves as the main fundraising source for the Humanitarian Fund and has become one of the surf industry’s can’t miss events. SIMA members receive first priority invitations for the always sold-out Liquid National Ball in La Jolla, CA.

SIMA’s in-house public relations and publicity efforts are designed to increase awareness of the surf industry in order to grow your business. Efforts include promoting industry statistics and SIMA events in both the surf media and mainstream media. SIMA members directly receive all SIMA press releases and media announcements.

The quarterly newsletter, SIMA Sessions, is SIMA’s prime vehicle for delivering important industry news, progress reports, business tips, profiles and updates to manufacturers.


Trade Shows

One of SIMA’s most important jobs is to actively evaluate and endorse surf industry trade shows that will most effectively bring your products to market. SIMA actively endorses the Surf Expo trade shows. In addition, SIMA makes available to its members at these shows a complimentary on-site hospitality lounge/business center. Members may use this center during show hours for meetings, copying, faxing and enjoying complimentary refreshments.
